The legend says when He visited Multan the religious leaders of various sect were inhospitable and sent him a pot of milk full up to the lip as a symbol that the place has no room for any new spiritual leader. Baba Nanak just put a jasmine petal on milk which didn’t dislodge milk rather just added fragrance to it. He has composed various hymns on ego and living with humility. हउमै नावै नालि विरोधु है दुइ न वसहि इक ठाइ ॥ हउमै विचि सेवा न होवई ता मनु बिरथा जाइ ॥ हरि चेति मन मेरे तू गुर का सबदु कमाइ ॥ हुकमु मंनहि ता हरि मिलै ता विचहु हउमै जाइ ॥ हउमै सभु सरीरु है हउमै ओपति होइ ॥ हउमै वडा गुबारु है हउमै विचि बुझि न सकै कोइ ॥ हउमै विचि भगति न होवई हुकमु न बुझिआ जाइ ॥ हउमै विचि जीउ बंधु है नामु न वसै मनि आइ ॥ नानक सतगुरि मिलिऐ हउमै गई ता सचु वसिआ मनि आइ ॥ सचु कमावै सचि रहै सचे सेवि समाइ ॥ Baba Nanak was not against any religious philosophy rather stressed on being true to it. He just added fragrance to what the spiritual founders of various religions had compiled by detailing and simplifying philosophies with his ability of poetry and metaphors. Another of his composition He has a question that we are so miniscule in the Universe that our status doesn’t have any meaning, so what sense is self-esteem.  अगी पाला कि करे सूरज केही राति ॥ चंद अनेरा कि करे पउण पाणी किआ जाति ॥ धरती चीजी कि करे जिसु विचि सभु किछु होइ ॥ नानक ता पति जाणीऐ जा पति रखै सोइ ॥
